LG V35 Thinq review
LG has not been able to enjoy the same level of success in the Smartphone segment that it enjoys in consumer electronics, so far. Its flagship G series Smartphones have not been able to cope well with models from home turf rival Samsung’s Galaxy S series and Chinese competitors like OnePlus. The V series is positioned next to the G series in LG’s mobile lineup. The LG V30 has been succeeded by the LG V35 Thinq which has got the Thinq Moniker, indicating incorporation of AI technology. It comes with enough technology and features to woo the users.
Design & Display
The LG V35 ThinQ does not look radically different than the V30. However, build quality is pretty good and it feels solid in the hands. It is bliss to have a phone with notch less display these days, but the bezels are quite slim. It is sold in two colors- Platinum Grey and Aurora Black. The all-glass and aluminum body is durable.
The display leaves almost no room for grudges. The LG V35 ThinQ has a gorgeous and bright 6-inch, OLED display with a resolution of 2880 x 1440 pixels. Its viewing angles are good too. The maximum brightness is 537 nits and it has 18:9 aspect ratio.
Camera
The LG V35 ThinQ gets a camera upgrade over its predecessor. There are a couple of 16-megapixel cameras sitting at the back. Like many of the flagship Android devices, the phone comes with embedded AI tech. This feature is also there in rival Samsung Galaxy S9 plus and Note 9. The phone does a nice job in identifying objects and people and the camera setting are adjusted automatically based on detection.
The imaging prowess of the dual camera setup is pretty good. Outdoor images contain lots of detail, vibrant colors and sharpness is also good. It trumps the S9 Plus in portrait shots, especially. However, in low light imaging it lags behind the venerable Pixel 2 XL. The front 8 MP shooter with f/1.9 aperture is also competent and it lets you take sharp and right selfies. Videos shot by the phone look really good owing to the presence of OIS and EIS. The camera features Google Lens and it works as desired. You can record 4K HDR videos with it.
Hardware & Software
In hardware, it is hard to find fault with the LG V35 ThinQ. Under the hood, sits the flagship Snapdragon 845 chipset-which also powers most top end android devices nowadays. This, coupled with generous 6 GB RAM, leads to butter smooth performance. The apps open blazing fast and hardcore gamers will find the performance to be satisfying too. You get 64 GB storage and a microSD card slot is also there.
The device comes with Android 8.0 Oreo with LG’s custom skin atop. LG’s overlay is not too heavy, but it is quite functional. It does not look cartoonish and using the UI is simple too.
Battery & Other Features
Unlike the high end G7, this phone does not come with a Google Assistant button. It however, supports Google’s much touted Project Fi service. It gets Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and dual-band Wi-Fi. The audiophiles will love the on-board quad-DAC, but you need a good headphone to avail the benefits.
LG has used a 3,300mAh battery in the V35 ThinQ. The battery is a stable performer and it will last for a day and a little more, based on your usage pattern. The good thing is it supports wireless charging. LG also packs in a fast charger in the box. It charges the phone to full in less than 2 hours approx.
