Design:
iPhone XS has frameless design, the replacement of the fingerprint sensor by facial recognition Face ID, the portrait mode in the front camera, the improvement of slow motion videos that record at 1080p, the OLED screen panel, the animoji or the possibility of fast charging and wireless charging with the purchase of the relevant accessory not included, will be inherited from the iPhone X of 2017.
iPhone Xr will be the cheapest of the iPhone without frames (and with notch) available with lower resolution IPS LCD screen and that loses the 3D touch or a camera that loses duality among the highlights.
Display:
As far as technology is concerned, the XS have OLED screens. The iPhone XR has dimensions very similar to their predecessor, the iPhone X. the iPhone XR rises to 6.1 inches and this being one of the largest screens in the smartphone sector. iPhone XR arrives without frames and with a notch at the top and it has IPS / LCD. The screen resolution of the iPhone XR is 1,792 x 828 pixels and 326 dpi. Apple has decided to opt for a new configuration called Liquid Retina in the XR with Haptic Touch.
Camera:
The iPhone XS mount a double lens camera of 12 + 12 megapixels, the secondary lens being a telephoto lens. But the iPhone XR is left with a single lens, also 12 megapixels, although it has pixels of 1.4 um and an aperture f / 1.8. Despite this, these two models have portrait mode (in both cameras) and the same capabilities such as editing the intensity of the bokeh once the photo is taken, the Smart HDR, Dual-Tone flash and optical stabilization. As far as selfie is concerned, iPhone XS has 7 megapixel camera and iPhone XR has 8 megapixel camera with aperture f / 2.2.
If we talk about recording video, these two models can record clips with stereo sound at 4K in 24, 30 or 60 frames per second; in FullHD at 30 or 60 fps and 720p at 30 frames. The internal camera also stays the same, allowing recording at 1080p @ 60 fps.
Hardware And Software:
Here we do not find noteworthy differences. These two models assemble the new A12 Bionic processor of 64 bits and six cores. As far as RAM is concerned, the XS models have 4 GB, unlike the XR, which has 3 GB.
We also found differences in internal storage. The two iPhone XS arrive with 64, 256 and 512 GB of internal storage. The iPhone XR, on the other hand, incorporates 64, 128 and 256, remaining without the option of half a terabyte. Anyway, any of the versions are more than enough for any user.
Battery And Other Features:
If we talk about battery iPhone XS you have to 2.659mAh battery and iPhone XR has 2,942mAh battery. Now connectivity, so they are similar, but there is some differences. While the iPhone XS has 4G / LTE class Gigabit with MIMO 4×4 and LAA4, the iPhone XR is left with advanced 4G. This, at least on paper, should not be a major problem for the average user.
Apple has also established a division between its phones regarding the materials with which it has built them. While in iPhone Xs we have stainless steel frames, the bet on the iPhone Xr is made on aluminum. A material that will travel the entire frame of the phone, giving it hardness at the same time lightness, but they are in second place behind their older brothers.
