Samsung Galaxy Note 9 review
South Korean technology giant Samsung is a name to reckon with in the Smartphone sector. However, it faced a lot of flak after the infamous flaming fiasco affecting its flagship Galaxy Note 7 phablet. With Note 8, Samsung managed to resurrect its image mostly. However, the average response to its latest flagship Galaxy S9 model prompted the company to introduce the successor to Note 8 a tad earlier than expected. The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is now out and it seems a worthy successor to the company’s flagship Smartphone. The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 release date 2018 is 24 Aug 2018.
Design & Display
Design wise, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 specs does not look radically different from its predecessor. The design is almost identical with a metal frame replete with diamond-cut chamfer and curved glass on the back and front. The glass however is not curved. It is large sized phone with Super AMOLED screen. The massive 6.4-inch OLED display with 2960 x 1440 resolution, is vivid and sharp and color reproduction is excellent. The major departure in design from Note 8 is placement of the fingerprint scanner. The rear fingerprint scanner now sits below the camera lens. Overall, it is a bit wider and heavier than the predecessor.
Camera
The Galaxy Note 9 uses nearly the same camera module used in the Galaxy S9 and that is actually good. It has two 12-megapixel cameras at the rear which produce excellent quality images, even in dimly lit places. The camera app gets some enhancements such as auto scene-detection AI. The AI detects objects fast and optimizes settings automatically. The Note 9 also comes with special flaw-detection software that helps improve quality of images. On the front sits a 8-megapixel camera with an aperture of f/1.7.
Hardware & Software
The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 specifications has the best possible hardware – much like any premium Smartphone. It is powered by the mighty Snapdragon 845 processor and you get 6 GB RAM. There is a model with 8GB RAM too. This combination is capable of handling almost anything you throw at it! It sails through heavy gaming, hardcore multitasking, and HD video streaming- almost anything. Switching between dozens of open apps is also blazing fast. Storage is 128 GB and 512 GB for the models. Additionally, you get microSD slots.
The USP of the Note 9 is a revamped and more versatile S Pen. With it, Samsung is trying to woo users with creativity in mind. You can use it in many ways, including a camera shutter and also to make presentations.
Like most flagship Android models, the Galaxy Note 9 ships with Android 8.1 Oreo. While there is no news on it getting upgraded to Android Pie 9- the software is polished and functional. You may find some unnecessary apps though. Bixby, Samsung’s own digital assistant is there, but it does not do anything more than what Google Assistant can do. You get 2 web browsers and 2 email clients as well.
Battery & Other Features
Of late, most Smartphone makers are sprucing up battery capacity and Samsung has followed suit here. The majority of Note 9 users are likely to be heavy multi taskers. So, Samsung has packed it with a hefty 4000 maH battery. That’s better than what you get on the S9 Plus and Note 8. It also outshines all segment rivals comfortably. You get 6-7 hours of on screen time- on an average. It gets recharged quickly-which is bliss. There are some nifty enhancements that most users will appreciate. One of them is the AKG-tuned stereo speakers that produce rich, loud sound. The device supports both facial recognition and Iris recognition. A separate button for summoning Bixby is there though it may not be used that much by most users. Samsung Note 9 price will be revealed soon for users.
